We pour concrete for homeowners and small property owners in Springfield, from the walks around a house to the foundation under it, built to drain well and stay put.
Springfield is the city of the Lincoln Home and the Old State Capitol, places you probably know well, but our days are spent out in its neighborhoods. On the west side, the established neighborhoods around Washington Park have well-kept older homes on large lots, where people walk, run and bike the park roads, and where we often find long driveways and front walks that have been patched over the years.
Many newer subdivisions have underground pipes for sump pumps running through rear yard drainage easements, and those community drains are private, kept up by the homeowners or the homeowners association rather than the city. I'd like to know where a drain like that runs before we plan a patio or walk behind the house, so we don't pour over something you may need to reach later. Older lot or newer one, we look at the ground and the water first, here and in the cities around Springfield.

Concrete work we do in Springfield, IL
Allied Springfield Concrete Construction covers 16 kinds of concrete work in Springfield, from the slab under a new garage to the walk out to the mailbox. Most calls start with a cracked, sinking or uneven slab, or water pooling where it shouldn't, and the lasting fix is new concrete on a base that's dug out and packed. The price mostly follows the size and thickness of the slab, how much old concrete comes out, how much work the ground needs and whether you choose a stamped or colored finish. The schedule turns on the weather, any permit paperwork and curing, the days new concrete needs to gain strength before you use it. Your written estimate spells out what's included.
Concrete driveway building
A new concrete driveway for your house, poured over a base we dig out and pack so the slab sits on firm ground.
Concrete patio construction
Want a place to sit outside? We build concrete patios sloped away from the house, so rain runs toward the yard, not the foundation.
Stamped concrete services
Stamped concrete is pressed with a pattern while it's still wet, giving a patio or walk the look of stone or brick.
Concrete sidewalk building
We build concrete sidewalks for front walks and side paths, with control joints cut in so any cracks form along a straight line.
Garage floor concrete
A garage floor carries your cars, so we pour it on a packed base, pitched slightly toward the door so water runs out.
Decorative concrete
Decorative concrete covers color, stains and textured finishes for patios, walks and entries, for owners who want more than plain gray.
Concrete retaining walls
A concrete retaining wall holds back a slope so you get usable flat ground, with a plan for where the water behind it drains.
Concrete floor installation
We install interior concrete floors for basements, shops and work buildings, poured level and finished smooth to use bare or cover later.
Concrete pool decks
Around a pool, the deck needs grip and drainage, so we give it a textured finish and slope it to carry splash water away.
Concrete steps construction
New concrete steps for front doors, back doors and porches, formed so each step is the same height and nobody catches a toe.
Slab foundation building
Building a garage or addition? A slab foundation is one pour on packed ground, with steel rebar inside to hold it together.
Foundation installation
We pour foundations for new homes, additions and outbuildings, built to the plans on ground we check before the forms go up.
Concrete parking lot building
For small property owners and businesses, we build concrete parking lots graded so water runs off instead of standing in low spots.
Concrete footings
Footings are the wide concrete base under a wall, post or porch, and we pour them so the weight above rests on firm soil.
Foundation raising
Floor sloping or a door sticking? Foundation raising lifts a settled foundation back toward level, and we look at why it sank first.
Concrete cutting
Need a doorway, a pipe trench or a bad section removed? We saw-cut concrete along clean, straight lines and leave the rest whole.
Why owners hire us for their concrete
Prep, drainage and curing get the most care
Before starting this business, I spent years repairing walks, steps and slabs for a property management company, and most of them failed early because of what was underneath. So we dig out and pack the base, check where the water will run and give the concrete its full cure before anyone uses it. If a budget has to give somewhere, I'd rather trim the finish than the base, since the base is the part you can't redo later.
The person who writes your estimate is at the pour
I come out to look at your job and write the estimate myself, and I'm on site working with our crew when the concrete goes in. Whatever we agreed on standing in your driveway doesn't get lost passing from one person to the next.
Permit paperwork handled for our work
We check what the city or village office asks for at your address and take care of the permit paperwork for our work when a permit applies. If the office needs something from you as the owner, we tell you early so it doesn't hold up the job.
If that's how you'd like your concrete done, tell us about your project or call (217) 210-0810.

(217) 210-0810Plan for the ground before the concrete
The City of Springfield's permit form says a permit doesn't vouch for whether the land suits the project, and it leaves soil compaction and mine subsidence research to the applicant and the owner. That's one reason I look closely at the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, when I come out for the estimate, because concrete is only as steady as what's underneath it.

Concrete questions from Springfield homeowners
Can you tear out my old cracked driveway and pour a new one?
Yes, we break out the old concrete, haul it away and pour a new driveway over a base we dig out and pack. Patching over a base that has already given way usually doesn't last, which is why I'd rather start from firm ground. Whether any of the old slab can stay is something I'll tell you after seeing it in person.
Will my new concrete slab crack like the old one did?
Concrete can still crack, but a well-built slab usually cracks much less, and the cracks that do show up tend to follow the control joints we cut for them. Most of the failed slabs I repaired had a base that was raked level instead of dug out and packed, or joints that were cut late or skipped. We take care of both, so if a crack forms, it's usually in a line we chose.
How do you keep water from pooling on a new patio or running toward my house?
We slope the slab away from your house, so rain runs toward the yard or the street instead of the foundation. Before the forms go up, I check where water runs now, and if your subdivision has one of the private sump drains mentioned above, I'd like to know where it runs.
What is the best finish for a concrete driveway or patio?
For most driveways and walks, a broom finish is the practical choice, a light texture dragged across the wet surface that gives shoes and tires grip. For a patio or entry where looks matter more, stamped or colored concrete is an option, and we can talk through how each one holds up when I come out.
Can you pour a concrete patio in a backyard the truck can't reach?
Usually yes, because when the concrete truck can't get close, the concrete can be pumped or wheeled in, and I'll work out the route when I look at the site. Please tell us about gates, fences and sprinkler lines along the way so we can plan around them.
How long will I be without my driveway after a new concrete pour?
You'll stay off the new driveway until it has cured enough to carry a car, and you can walk on it well before you can drive on it. How long that takes depends on the conditions when we pour, so I'll give you the timing for your slab at the walk-through, and it's worth planning where to park in the meantime.
How do I take care of a new concrete driveway or patio?
Most of the care comes early, letting the concrete cure before heavy use and keeping big trucks and equipment off the edges, where a slab has the least support. We go over what your slab needs during the walk-through, and if anything looks off in those first months, please give us a call.
Do I need a permit for concrete work in Springfield, IL?
That depends on the job and the address, so we check with the city or village office before anything goes on the schedule. In Springfield, permit applications go through the city's Office of Public Works, and its application lists parking lot permits among others, which matters if you own a small commercial property. When a permit applies, we take care of the paperwork for our work and let you know early if the office needs anything from you as the owner.
