Allied Springfield Concrete Construction

About our Springfield concrete contractor company

Stamped concrete driveway and entry patio with a tan stone pattern, bordered by grass and shrubs beside a house.

Why I started building concrete to last

Before I started this business, I spent years doing upkeep for a property management company, patching walks, resetting steps and repairing slabs that had given out long before they should have. Most of the time the cause was something nobody could see once the job was finished, like the ground underneath or where the water went. In 2023 I started Allied Springfield Concrete Construction in Springfield, IL to build it right the first time, and that's still what our concrete work in Springfield comes down to.

Most of our calls come from homeowners and small property owners in Springfield and the cities around it. We see older homes on big lots on the west side, and newer subdivisions where sump pump lines run underground along the back of the yard, so we pay close attention to where water goes before anything is poured. We're licensed and fully insured, and if you'd like me to come look at your driveway, patio or slab, you can send us a message or call (217) 210-0810.

What it's like to work with us

  • We spend the time on what you won't see

Most of our care goes into the ground under the slab, the drainage and the curing, because that's where nearly every failed slab I repaired went wrong. If the budget is tight, I'd rather keep a properly prepared base and go simpler on the finish, since a nice surface on a poor base will crack and sink anyway.

  • The person who writes your estimate is at the pour

I come out myself to look at the job and write your free estimate, so you know exactly what you're paying for before we start. I'm also on site working with our crew when the concrete goes in, so nothing we talked about gets lost between the estimate and the pour.

  • We look into the permit for you

We check what the city or village office asks for at your address and take care of the permit paperwork for our work when a permit applies. If the office needs something from you as the owner, we let you know early so it doesn't hold up your job.

How we go about a concrete job

  1. Dig and pack

We dig out soft dirt and pack the subgrade, the ground the slab sits on, so your concrete doesn't settle along with loose fill underneath.

  2. Check drainage

Before we set forms, we look at where water runs on your property and slope the slab away from the house, not toward it.

  3. Time the pour

We plan pours around the worst midday heat, because concrete that dries out too fast can leave a weak, dusty top later on.

  4. Cut joints

We cut control joints, shallow grooves that give the slab a planned place to crack, early enough that any cracks follow them instead of wandering.

  5. Let it cure

We tell you when it's safe to walk and drive on it, because curing, the slow hardening after the pour, decides how strong the slab ends up.
